Happy Birthday Dad

Dad it is your birthday,
You're 58 years young
You have so many qualities
That can't be left unsung

You're honourable and accurate,
Considered and so deep
Astute and so reliable
Even when you're fast asleep!

You are thorough, scientific,
You can be serious and quiet
No matter how weird my latest dish
You're devoted enough to try it!

You've passed on many hobbies
Like motorbikes and swimming
Your encouragement in everything
Made me feel like I was winning

You're heroic and so active
In both body and in mind
A wonderful provider
Supportive and so kind

There are so many memories
Of times that we have shared
The gardening, lifts, feng shui and fun runs
Showed how much you cared

Life's not always easy
So many things have passed
Expectations of an average dad
You have massively surpassed

So now we face the future
As a new year starts for you
Do you know how much love surrounds you?
I don't think that you do.

For all these words do not convey
The deeper things I want to say
Like how much love I feel inside
And how you fill my heart with pride
How blessed I feel to have you near
How much your family hold you dear
The strength you bring, the inspiration
The solidness, the firm foundation
I hope this poem does express
How much you're loved, with tenderness
I want to thank you, this is to say
You're the perfect Dad

With love on your birthday

I thought of many things that I could get for your birthday
But material things just can't express what I want to say
Because you mean so much to me, my bestest friend by far
And I don't think that you realise just how wonderful you are

And so this little rhyme is something special just for you
To show appreciation for all the lovely things you do
To tell you that I love you and I hold you oh so dear
And how I feel much better every time that you are near

You're bright and warm and funny, you have a way with wit
You put on baby voices, don't mind acting like a twit!
Nor do I and that is why we get on like we do
Lady luck was shining on the day that I met you

We take the hit and miss and we can talk and talk for days
Often say the exact same thing - we're alike in many ways
You especially like talking when a DVD is on
You have a love of travelling but I miss you when you're gone!

We draw cool people close to us - but usually on our toes!
You treat me to nice dinners and you give me lovely clothes
You're warmth is like the sunshine, you have my total trust
Everyone needs a friend like you, Maggie you're a must!

So here's to whole days spent in bed, doing girlie things
I look forward to a lasting friendship, all the fun it brings
You deserve the very best in life, in every single way
Thank you just for being you, have a fabulous birthday!

Happy birthday Karen, you have reached the big 5-0!
We hope you view this milestone with happiness, not woe
We quizzed the people close to you to help us with this rhyme
With all the love around you, you must truly be sublime!

Looking back on years now past you've achieved so very much
And encouraged that in others too with your enthusiastic touch
Just like your lovely husband John, you're humorous and fun
Coupled with your zest for life, this will keep you always young

Memories of setting sail, a holiday on the sea
A beautiful view of Monaco from your cruise ship balcony
You're a role model for others, especially your daughter,
She's a credit to your parenting & all the things you've taught her

You inspire many feelings in your friends and family
You're admired for your confidence and high integrity
You do not care for details but you're full of good advice
You love to buy new clothes and things regardless of the price!

You love to eat in restaurants and don your finery
In fact a more befitting present would have been a winery!
Or with your love of travel and a tendency to roam
We'd have bought a house in Florida for you to make your home!

But we haven't got big pots of cash, so this will have to do:
A silly little poem to say what others think of you
One thing that is obvious is that you're held so very dear

That time of year has come again
It's time to celebrate
Not just cos it's your birthday
But because you're my best mate

I raise a glass and drink to you
And thank the God above
For blessing me with friendship
From one so full of love

Your warmth, support and kindness
Have been constant through the years
We've shared such fun and laughter
You've helped me smile through the tears

You know I really miss you
Now we live so far apart
But you're never really far away
Because you're always in my heart

I fondly think of times gone by
The things we used to do
Like dancing round my living room
With a glass of wine or two!

We used to walk and talk for hours
Watch The Bee Gee's on TV
You're beautiful and funny
And you're always there for me

Jak the time has come to say 'you really can't be 50!'
Then all your mates will shuffle round and start to look quite shifty
Cos no one can believe it's true, you look so very young
Actually we're lying, but on your birthday that's what's done!

You have so many qualities befitting one your age
Opinionated, cynical but also very sage
You have your funny moments, an occasional 'stupid' hour
Like encouraging the teenagers to cover you in flour!

We both think you're funny cos you like to vet Mel's blokes
We also think you're cheeky and you tell bad jokes
You like reading, you like music, go to lads' night every year,
You're a walker & a talker and you drink a lot of beer!

You're obsessively united to your woolly beanie hat
Did you wear it while in Turkey, when on the beach you sat?!
You're very good at singing, but not at matchbox tricks
You're talented at painting and you're also good with bricks.

You were the best Native American at Simon's fancy dress
Whatever you turn your hand to, you always manage to impress
You're very left of centre, you're capable and strong
It's just a shame the football team that you support is wrong!

All these things and so much more, make you as a whole
And even though we wind you up, these virtues we extol
So now all that remains dear Jak, is just for us to say,
We think you're pretty special, so have a fabulous birthday!
